****FIRST CONTROL PANEL****
LOAD and SAVE
The picture file formats supported are Degas PI3, 32k files (PIC),
and PAK which is the program's own file format (not to be confused
with the format PAC, which will not load!). Objects (OBJ, BLK etc.)
may also be loaded and saved, these are picture blocks of varying
size which can be loaded and located directly into another picture.
DELETE FILE
The icon is of a crossed-out disk; through this you may choose a
file on disk and delete it.
ASCII LOAD
You can load a small ASCII-text file onto the picture screen, but
the program can only accommodate one screen-full at a time. Having
selected an ASCII-file, left-click on screen at the point where the
text is to start. The text can be fed in to overlay a picture, and
will appear in the point-size set for the 'System' font.
FONT LOAD
This loads one of the program's own fonts (supplied in the folder
marked Fonts) into memory. Once loaded a font stays available till
you replace it by loading another.
A conversion program (FONTCONV.PRG) is supplied with Happy-Paint;
this converter adapts Signum fonts for use in Happy-Paint. The
best quality is usually derived from Signum P24 (24-pin printer)
fonts. Because of the difference between British and German key-
boards you may find some characters do not occur in the 'correct'
position; where the alphabet is concerned this applies only to the
letters Yy and Zz, which are switched around - so just remember to
type in Z for Y and vice-versa!
RAM
Tells you how much memory is unused in the computer, and on disk.
PRINTER
Set the options according to your type of printer.
The 'Normal' setting has the picture correct when the page is long
side vertical (portrait); 'Land' means the long side is horizontal
(landscape). What happens is that for landscape, the picture gets
automatically rotated through 90 degrees before it is printed.
Bubblejets (and some Lasers) have an Epson 24-pin emulation, but
Happy-Paint's printer driver was probably not aimed at Epsons.
It may be more suited to NEC printers, as is often the case with
German programs.
The only settings which work for Canon BJ300/Epson 850 are:
24-Pin, LAND, any setting for number of passes by the
print-head, and NLQ. The picture is printed out with
its bottom left-hand corner at the top left of the page.
DUSTBIN
For completely erasing the current picture screen.
QUESTION MARK
The program details (author etc.).
EXIT
To quit the program.
